It covers the regions of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ays\u00e9n<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Magallanes<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the provinces of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Capit\u00e1n Prat<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00daltima Esperanza<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the communes of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caleta Tortel,<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Villa O&#8217;Higgins,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Natales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1384\" src=\"https:\/\/glaciareschilenoss3.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/07193254\/121.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the many lagoons of glacier origin can be seen around the source of the Geikie River, the boundary between <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Torres del Paine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Bernardo O&#8217;Higgins<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> National Parks.<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The park&#8217;s territory has many canals in the western sector. At the park&#8217;s eastern sector is the southern Patagonian ice field from which numerous glaciers break off. Near <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Ed\u00e9n is<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The Pio XI glacier, where huge ice blocks break off. The ice wall is approximately 75 meters high (about 30 floors of a conventional building) and when it falls waves of more than 10 meters are formed. This glacier has 1265 kms<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is the largest in South America.<\/span>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1385 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/glaciareschilenoss3.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/07193958\/51.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><figcaption><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The hanging glacier of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monte<\/span><\/i> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Balmaceda<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is within the limits of the park and is one of the most visited sectors each year by tourists.<\/span>\r\n\r\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 Access to <\/b><b><i>Bernardo O&#8217;Higgins<\/i><\/b><b> National Park for excursionist<\/b><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Access to this enormous National Park can be made by sea. There are sailings from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Villa Serrano<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (on the border of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Torres del Paine<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and also from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Natales<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that disembark in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Toro<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; a place from where every day hundreds of tourists walk about 1 hour (round trip) to contemplate the lagoon and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Serrano<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> glacier, which is detached from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Monte Balmaceda<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. There is also access from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Puerto Eden<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caleta Tortel<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (also by sea). The more adventurous can do some hiking trails, but a guide is required because there are no marked trails.
