 {"id":17848,"date":"2023-01-05T15:42:22","date_gmt":"2023-01-05T18:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.glaciareschilenos.org\/?p=17848"},"modified":"2025-02-10T12:15:07","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T15:15:07","slug":"del-aula-a-los-hielos-project-in-aldea-bosque-school-from-chonchi-chiloe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.glaciareschilenos.org\/en\/announcement\/del-aula-a-los-hielos-project-in-aldea-bosque-school-from-chonchi-chiloe\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00abDel Aula a los Hielos\u00bb project in Aldea Bosque School from Chonchi, Chilo\u00e9"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the beginning of December, 2022, we finished our educational project <\/span><b><i>\u201cDel Aula a los Hielos: Glaciares Chilenos en tu escuela\u201d<\/i><\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [From the Classroom to the Ices: Chilean glaciers in your school] that looks for getting Chilean glaciers closer to children and teenagers didactically\u00a0to develop themself with nature responsibly and respectfully, by connecting them with the environment where they live at and strengthening the connection with the ecosystem where they inhabit at.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How does the \u201c<\/b><b><i>Del Aula a los Hielos<\/i><\/b><b>\u201d project initiate?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In August 2021, we were invited to participate in a teenager talent program called \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Talentoso 2021<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d [Talented 2021], whose aim is to look for artistic talents by supporting different social causes through a project. The program\u2019s winner <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vittoria Velasco <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and her Talent Manager <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rey Alcalde<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allowed us to win a fund to execute the educational project \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Del Aula a los Hielos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Fourth School: <\/b><b><i>Aldea Bosque<\/i><\/b><b> School from <\/b><b><i>Chonchi<\/i><\/b><b> commune, in <\/b><b><i>Chilo\u00e9<\/i><\/b><b> city, Los Lagos region.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Last Friday, December 2nd, we carried out this fourth activity of the project for 18 students from different ages in <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aldea Bosque<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> School from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chonchi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> commune in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Lagos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How was the activity we did?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We prepared a talk on general aspects of Chilean glaciers for the last school we visited this year. This activity was especially thought for students from 2 to 13 years old, who belong to this multi-level school.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We prepared a talk about general aspects of Chilean glaciers for this school. We started by understanding the glacier concept, its importance, where we can find glaciers in Chile, in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Los Lagos<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> region, and the special connection between glaciers with the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Isla Grande of Chilo\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Also, we\u00a0broadly introduce to them the biodiversity that lives in glaciers and around them, the changes that glaciers are exposed to, their main affectations, and finally but not least important, the daily actions to motivate students to take care of nature and glaciers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the talk, we had a break where students had launch and played around. As a work team, we could walk around the school and get to know the different corners especially thought to promote learning through nature, such as different classrooms delimited by trees, outdoor library, fossil samples, orchard and greenhouse, compost, rainwater recovery, swings hanging the trees\u2019 branches, among other places thought by and to children.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the break, we organized a workshop, which consisted of drawing, coloring, and naming a glacier created by students. They could also leave a message to take care of nature. We gave each student crayons and block-size sheets for this activity as a gift.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finally, we provided complementary educational material to the students and the school such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Graphic material to students and school as a gift: Postcards with information about glaciers and fauna that inhabit glaciers, foundation stickers, and a glacier picture magnet for each one.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audiobooks to the school as a gift: Two books called \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Al Agua<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d [To the Water] related to child poems written by Sam Garc\u00eda and illustrated by Mar\u00eda Jos\u00e9 Carmona and Loreto Salinas. Also, two books called \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Opera del Mar<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d [Opera of the Sea] written by Susannah Buchan and illustrated by Sam Garcia. This last book has texts and sound recordings of whales and cetaceans that inhabit our country\u2019s coasts. Both books are part of the national editorial<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Manivela<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We also provided students snacks such as muffins and brownies prepared with natural ingredients by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Glo Artisan<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a healthy bakery from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chonchi<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Chilo\u00e9<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All of this was saved in reusable bags from the foundation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certainly, completing this project at <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aldea Bosque<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> School was an unforgettable experience that encouraged us to continue our job as a foundation. This activity not only allowed us to visit unknown places and delight us with a natural environment and incomparable geography, but also, we could recognize a learning process and connection with empirical nature, where classrooms don\u2019t settle limits, but the trees, rain, and sea.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each student participated and contributed knowledge regardless of their age. It was a huge challenge to modify the traditional learning model to children to a formation with a direct connection with the environment. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Certainly, we learned as much as they did. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We are grateful to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fundaci\u00f3n Talentoso<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for allowing us to carry out this project; to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aldea Bosque<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> School and teachers for the management, confidence, and enthusiasm to do this activity; to our teamwork for developing and organizing the talk and workshop; to entrepreneurs and local shops for contributing through their products; and mainly, to the students for giving us their attention and active participation in this initiative<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10759 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/glaciareschilenoss3.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/28130552\/FEC_9223.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10754 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/glaciareschilenoss3.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/28130423\/FEC_9159.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10755 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/glaciareschilenoss3.s3.us-west-1.amazonaws.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/28130440\/FEC_9180.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\" \/><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. The outdoor learning model was revealing: the trees, the wind, the leaves, the birds, and the whole environment participated in the academic training of loving and conservative children and teenagers of nature. It\u2019s an education based on nature and on-site learning as a great model. They make their life and their day-by-day between flora and fauna. An education that it\u2019s not about competing but thinking. The school is an example that could hopefully be replicated all over Chile.
