Throughout education and connection with communities, we look to promote ecological awareness and local actions considering the current and future state of the environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Atrapanieves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [Snow-catcher] Project is a citizen science project to understand our snow as a sustainable and local water resource. It\u2019s located in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Caj\u00f3n del Maipo <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">commune, in the southeast zone of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Metropolitana <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">region of Chile, about 92 km from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Santiago, <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">close to the confluence of the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Morales <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volc\u00e1n <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rivers. In November 2020, the project was entered into the 2021 <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fondo de Protecci\u00f3n Ambiental (FPA)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> [Environmental Protection Fund] of the Ministry of the Environment and was awarded in April of the same year.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The FPA supports citizen initiatives and partially or completely finance projects or activities, which are focused on environmental protection or reconstruction, sustainable development, nature\u2019s preservation, or environmental heritage\u2019s preservation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fundaci\u00f3n Glaciares<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we carry out voluntary work; therefore, all our resources are spent in the project execution, which is stipulated in the initial application.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The central concepts of the \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atrapanieves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d project are environmental education and citizen science, which improves the communities\u2019 knowledge about the natural surroundings where they live.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Focused on snow science, the project involves the assembly of snow barriers for its stockpile and study by the community. For this objective, different activities associated with ecological education will be carried out, such as workshops and lectures about environmental education and climate change. These activities will be delivered three times, where the \u201c<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Atrapanieves<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d project will be presented. The lectures will be offered to the beneficiary communities from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ba\u00f1os Morales <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lo Vald\u00e9s<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> towns, along with members of the German Alpine Club (DAV according to its German initials), an organism associated with the project. The activities also consider the implementation of a snow science workshop, a construction workshop and how to use the Meteorological Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first steps of the project have already been made. The first one was the sign installation in the <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lo Vald\u00e9s <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Refugee, belonging to the DAV, which displays information about the FPA implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s important to highlight that the beneficiaries of this FPA \u2013 such as the community from <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ba\u00f1os Morales, Lo Vald\u00e9s,<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the DAV \u2013 have shown great interest in collaborating and being part of this initiative that seeks to promote citizen science in the face of current challenges of climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fundaci\u00f3n Glaciares<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> trajectory has been focused on activities around glacier science and environmental education, including communities from national territory, as well as, Latin American and abroad, through our communication platforms<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Fundaci\u00f3n Glaciares<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, we want to deeply express gratitude for showing interest in being part of this wonderful project.
